An Early Injury
When I was 18 years old, I was working at a horse stable in upstate NY. One day, as I was haying the field, I lifted a bale of hay that unbeknownst to me was soaking wet. I was not prepared for the weight of the load and severely injured my back, herniating a disc. I suffered for a year in tremendous pain, unable to walk with severe sciatica and spasms. At that time in 1974, Chiropractic was not mainstream, and I tried the conservative measures that the doctors had to offer: traction and bed rest. After a year of getting nowhere I opted for disc surgery. Although it did relieve the symptoms temporarily, my pain returned a couple of years later. What I did not know at that time was that I had an underlying structural problem that was most likely a pre-existing condition to the herniation.
My Introduction to Chiropractic
What I know now was that my underlying condition was a sacroiliac sprain, and until that was properly treated my spine would continually be stressed and the muscular compensation that had probably caused the disc to herniate in the first place would continue to affect my sciatic nerve and discs. Through a series of fortuitous events, I wound up working for 4 extremely talented and accomplished Chiropractors. They introduced me to this wonderful healing art and taught me about nutrition and healing my body from the ground up. I was finally able to start to heal, and I knew it was my destiny to become a Chiropractor and offer the very same opportunity to anyone wanting to heal their injuries and take control of their health.
35+ Years of Experience
A few years after graduating New York Chiropractic College, I opened my own practice in Port Washington, NY. For over 35 years, I have been blessed to serve the wider Long Island community, as well as to have traveled the world with top athletes in tennis and figure skating as their chiropractor on tour.
